FMGE Screening Test is carried out for Indian citizens who wish to get enrolled with the Medical Council of India or with any other State medical Council of India. The Screening Test Regulations Act had initiated this test. The examination is carried out two times in a year.

Basic Details: The FMGE-Screening Test has been introduced by the Screening Test Regulations 2002. As per the regulations, “An Indian citizen possessing a primary medical qualification awarded by any medical institution outside India who is desirous of getting provisional or permanent registration with the Medical Council of India or any State Medical Council on or after 15.03.2002 shall have to qualify a screening test conducted by the prescribed authority for that purpose as per the provisions of section 13 of the Act

Structure of FMGE Screening Test: The FMGE Screening Test is conducted as single paper. The total number of questions for the test is 300.There is no negative marking for this objective type test. The candidate has to score 50 % marks to pass this competitive screening test. The applicant is free to attempt the test any number of times. Those who crack this screening test can apply the Medical Council of India or State medical Council of India for permanent registration.

Important facts about FMGE (MCI Screening Test)

  • The Examination is held twice a year at New Delhi.
  • The test is conducted in English language.
  • The exam consists of one paper.  There will be 300 multiple-choice questions (MCQ) of single response type in the paper.
  • There is NO negative marking.
  • An applicant shall be declared as having passed only if he/she obtains a minimum of 50% of marks in the examination.
  • Results (Pass/Fail) for eligible candidates will be displayed at the website and office of NBE. Marks obtained shall be declared for all the candidates and also displayed at the website natboard.edu.in
  • The applicants who qualify the Screening Test may apply to the Medical Council of India, New Delhi or to any State Medical Council for provisional registration / permanent registration.
  • There are no restrictions on number of attempts that can be availed by an applicant.

Eligibility Criteria: Those who appear for this screening test should possess an MBBS degree from any medical institution abroad. The institution from where the medical education is pursued must be included with in the World Directory of Medical Schools. Only Indian citizens are eligible to apply for this medical screening test. Additional details on eligibility can be obtained from the prospectus.

The Applicant must meet/fulfil the following criteria:

  1. a) He / She are a citizen of India or Overseas citizenship of India.
  2. b) Possesses primary medical qualifications that are recognized by the Government of  the country issuing that qualification and the holder of that qualification is entitled for practice in that country. The said medical school must be listed in WHO directory of medical schools.
  3. c) He / She had obtained Eligibility Certificate from the Medical Council of India (applicable only in respect to students who took admission abroad on or after 15.03.2002). This requirement shall not be necessary in respect of Indian citizens or overseas citizens of India who have obtained admission in foreign medical institute before 15th March 2002.
  4. d) All students who have taken admission abroad prior to 15.03.2002 and are required to qualify the Screening Test for their registration, shall be allowed to appear in the Screening Test even if they do not meet the minimum admission norms of MCI for joining undergraduate medical course, subjected to the compliance of the Judgment(s) of the Honble Supreme Court/Competent Courts in this regard including but not limited to judgment dated 8th March 2002 in Civil Appeal No. 2779 of 2000 & other judgments.
  5. e) From 15.03.2002 and onwards all students are required to obtain an Eligibility Certificate from MCI before proceeding abroad for studies in Medicine.
  6. f) Applicants/Candidates may also refer to Screening Test Regulations and Regulations on Graduate Medical Education, Eligibility Certificate Regulations issued by Medical Council of India.   7. g) Cut-off date for obtaining the Primary Medical Qualification shall be before the conduct of exam i.e. before29th Sept, 2013. It is mandatory to provide proof/documentary evidence in support of the candidate having passed final examination for such a primary medical qualification/posses the primary medical qualification on before the cut-off date. In the event of the date of issue of result/proof, primary medical qualification being after the prescribed cut off date, the application forms shall be rejected and candidates declared as ineligible.

How to Apply? The applications forms can be obtained through the official website of ww.natboard.edu.in. Before submitting this application, the aspirant has to pay an amount of Rs. 750/- as application fee. The application form can also be obtained through postal method. In this case the applicant has to pay the application fee through demand draft.

How to fill the Form? The application form must be filled in capital letters only. The candidate’s name, his father’s name and date of birth must be exactly same as that in the HSC certificate. A total of four photographs bearing the name of the applicant are required. The applicant has to put his signature on both sides of the application form. Incomplete or applications without signature may have the chance to get rejected.

Application Fee (Including Postage Charge) (Non-Refundable)

Candidates are required to submit the following fees:

  1. a) Examination Fee – Rs 3500/- (Three Thousand Five Hundred)
  2. b) Application Form Fee (to be submitted by candidates using internet downloaded forms) – Rs 750/- (Seven Hundred Fifty only)
  3. c) Late Fee – To be submitted by candidates submitting their application form after the cut off date but before the cut off date with late fee as prescribed in this Information Bulletin – Rs 1500/- (One Thousand & Five Hundred only)

The fee can be paid by the following means:

  1. d)By cash deposit :The fee as above can be deposited at any branch of the (i) Indian Bank or (ii) Axis Bank; The list of branches of Axis Bank and Indian Bank can be seen at their website axisbank.com and www.indianbank.in respectively. Kindly use the pay-in-slip provided along with this Information Bulletin for this purpose. Pay-in-slip can also be downloaded from NBE Website www.natboard.edu.in. NBE copy of pay-in-slip is required to be submitted in original along with application form.
  2. e) Fees submitted by any other means shall not be accepted.

SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION FORM: Application forms must be submitted within the stipulated time specified in the advertisement & on website. Applicants are requested to ensure that they submit the complete application form, in the envelope provided to reach NBE on or before the last date. Applications received after the last date will not be accepted.
